I know the feeling brother. I teach English in Ha Long Bay. One time, quite unexpectedly, SIX Police Officers knocked on my door. Thank god I have a Vietnamese girlfriend because at least she could interpret for me. She said, calm down, don't worry, its normal. I raised my voice a little and said SIX of them is normal? They checked all my paper work. I showed them my passport, one year visa and one year work permit. Like you, they didn't smile or anything. They were in the green military style uniforms and yes, I also had to wait for the guy in charge. They then handed me back my paper work. Only then did they smile and say thank you. Needless to say, my neighbors probably think I sell drugs. My girlfriend said No, they do immigration raids to see how many illegals they can round up from time to time. Still though, I was extremely nervous and I myself used to be a Police Officer in America. We never entered a home with SIX officers without a warrant and someone always went to jail. So as you can imagine it was quite difficult for my girlfriend to calm me down. All is well now but apparently its normal here. Now I know what its like to be an immigrant.

Actually it's true in Vietnam. If you visit a area without any tourism and you go alone as a tourist, you need to register in the local police. And you said sb asked you to marry his /her daughter which was common a few years ago happened to we Chinese as well. I know that a couple of years ago lots of Vietnamese girls wanted to be married with Chinese for living in China and a better life.

Damn I guess I got lucky when I traveled through Vietnam on a scooter. I stayed at random hotels in cities with no foreigners. I had gotten pulled over by police. Never had trouble but I can see how easily you can get yourself into trouble. Especially when traveling through random cities on a scooter.

That's a communist country for you, lol
I had a fairly similar experience in China back in 2018.
I was supposed to be starting a job, and getting an apartment, long story short, it fell through, I found out I was getting reported to the Labor Bureau, I was on the first airplane to Seoul I could get. Got out just in time, but to say it was scary would be an understatement.

I imagine that was a really interesting story, is there any chance of you doing it again? I truly would like to know about this experience but I couldn't hear you even by turning up the volume with the camera being across the road it just made the traffic louder. Pleeease do it again 🙁

Just answer the door next time, it's not like the bobby's in your country. Usually, they just want to interrogate you. If you are honest, there will be no problem…….. they already know the answers to the questions they pose. It's actually good to know the police in Vietnam.

I dunno. I could hear what he was saying with headphones. Dude's riding a motorbike around Vietnam and just suffered through a confusing and alarming night, I mean, I can at least appreciate the cinema verite of talking across a busy road. The day's ride montage near the end was a dream…great job. I found myself looking wistfully out at the vanishing point in some of those shots, and all under that pearly soft tropical sky.

How does he manage to keep the three day old stubble? It looks like he'd do a video the day that he shaves? Seedy looking character – no wonder the Vietnamese police hauled him in! BTW, is he a trust fund kid? Where does he find the money and time to visit shithole countries all over the world?
