The City of Puducherry/Pondicherry on the southeast coast of India does not have a recorded history from antiquity. Puducherry/Pondicherry has history recorded only after the advent of the colonial powers such as the Dutch, Portuguese, English and the French. Nearby places such as Arikanmedu (Now Ariyankuppam), Kakayanthoppe, Villianur, and Bahur, which were annexed by the French East India Company over a period of time and became the Union Territory of Puducherry after Independence, have written histories that predate the colonial era.

The French dominance in Pondi is weird, it feels out of place in modern India. It was a lonely place for me as a solo traveler, didn't meet anyone or make any friends. Expensive western restaurants and guesthouses everywhere. A lot of touts and scammers for a town of its size.

This looks like a deliberate attempt to show pondicherry in the worst way possible. Pondicherry is a beautiful city and a former French colony which still to this day retains its frech-colonial past. It's a popular destination for western travellers who visit TN. You might not have liked the city but the video is trying too hard to show pondicherry as this broken down relic of a city while it's the exact opposite.

Wow!  One of the best videos I have seen on India on YouTube.  Just discovered your channel last night and am binge-watching your vids!  Can't believe how few views this one has; it is a stunning piece of work.  I simultaneously had a smile on my face, tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat watching this (I have spent time in India, so it resonates).  Whatever you do, never stop making travel videos!

I wrote too soon when I commented that I finished all the videos. I forgot about this Pondicherry one! Looks very interesting and I kept thinking of Piscine Molitor Patel from the book Life of Pi. I really need to re-read it. You've got your skateboard in this one, and now I'm trying to remember when you lost it! I'm so sorry that happened. I loved watching you board in Vietnam. I hope you can get a replacement soon. Be well. Keep up the great work!
